Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • Schedule accordingly: Avoid strenuous lower body workouts for 5 days.
  • Eat a light meal- arrive well-nourished to avoid dizziness or lightheadedness during or after the procedure.
  • Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing to your appointment.

Post-Treatment Expectations

  • Mild swelling for 1-3 days (from anesthetic solution)
  • Bruising, redness, or discomfort for up 2-3 weeks.
  • Pinkish or bloody spotting on the dressing.

Post-Treatment Aftercare

  • You will have a layer of dressing layers over the incision: Steri-strip directly over the incision, followed by a gauze pad with a breathable Tegaderm seal over the entire area.
  • Remove the Tegaderm & gauze after 24 hours or sooner if it gets wet, if water breaches the Tegaderm seal, or if anesthetic begins to ooze. If you remove the Tegaderm, you may replace the gauze with a plain Band-Aid.
  • Leave Steri-strip in place for 5 days or until it falls off naturally. If it falls off before day 7, cover the area with Band-Aid until day 7.
  • Showers are fine, but don't scrub the site for 7 days.
  • Avoid baths, hot tubs, and pools for 5-7 days.
  • If insertion was above the belt line: No heavy back or twisting exercises (e.g. tennis, golf) for 5 days.
  • If insertion was below your belt line: no running, squats, horseback riding, etc for 5 days.
  • If you notice itching or redness: Take Benadryl 50 mg orally every 6 hours (may cause drowsiness).
  • If you notice bleeding: apply firm pressure for 5 minutes. If bleeding persists (beyond minor oozing) or if you see any pus, call us immediately.

  • Important Follow-Up Reminders

    • 5 weeks post-insertion: complete follow-up blood work.
    • 6 weeks post-insertion: schedule your complimentary lab-review visit.

    Long-term:

    • Men:Typically need re-insertions every 5 months.
    • Women: Typically need re-insertions every 3-4 months, depending on individual hormone levels and symptom return.
