Pre-Treatment Instructions

To ensure your treatment is as effective and safe as possible, follow these guidelines before each session:

Avoid Sun Exposure or Artificial Tanning (14 Days Prior)

Stay out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds or self-tanners for at least 2 weeks before treatment. Laser hair removal works best on untreated, naturally toned skin and sun exposure increases the risk of burns and pigmentation.

Discontinue Retinoids & Hydroquinone (3 Days Prior)

Stop using retinoids, hydroquinone, and other active skincare ingredients in the treatment area at least 3 days prior to your appointment. These ingredients can increase sensitivity and the risk of irritation.

Pre-Treat with Antiviral Medication (If Needed)

If you're prone to cold sores (herpes simplex) and you're treating the face or bikini area, talk to your provider about starting an antiviral medication the day before treatment to prevent an outbreak.

Shave the Treatment Area (12–24 Hours Prior)

Shave the area to be treated at least 12 hours before your appointment. Do not wax, tweeze, or use depilatory creams—we need the hair follicle intact below the skin for the laser to work effectively.

Pause Antibiotics

If you’re currently on antibiotics, let your provider know. Certain medications can increase skin sensitivity. Your appointment may need to be rescheduled to avoid complications.

Post-Treatment Expectations

Redness & Irritation (Common & Temporary)

Your skin may look and feel like a mild sunburn. Redness and sensitivity usually resolve within 3 to 5 days.

Hair Shedding (5–10 Days Post-Treatment)

You may notice what looks like new hair growth, but it’s actually expelled hair shafts from the treated follicles. This is normal and expected. Do not pick or scrub—let it shed naturally.

Post-Treatment Aftercare

Caring for your skin after treatment helps minimize irritation and maximize results. Here’s what to do:

Avoid Sun Exposure & Use SPF Daily

Continue to avoid direct sun for at least 2 weeks post-treatment and apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily—even when indoors.

Skip the Heat

Until redness or irritation fully subsides (typically 3–5 days), avoid:

  • Hot Showers or Baths
  • Saunas or steam rooms
  • Vigorous exercise or sweating
  • Active skincare (retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin c)
  • Exfoliation or scrubbing the treated area
Soothe & Hydrate

Apply aloe vera or a gentle moisturizer to the treated area 2–3 times daily as needed. This helps calm the skin and maintain hydration.

Avoid Hair Removal Methods That Remove the Root

Do not wax, tweeze, thread, or use hair removal creams during your treatment series. These interfere with the laser’s ability to target the follicle.

  • Frequency of Treatment

Laser hair removal is most effective in a series of sessions, spaced according to your treatment area:

    • Face & Neck: Every 4–6 weeks.
    • Body (Below Neck): Every 6–8 weeks.
    • Typical Series: 6–12 sessions for up to 80% hair reduction.
    • Maintenance: As needed based on hair regrowth and personal preference.
